GIMP - IMAGE MANIPULATION PROGRAMME

I have recently made an amazing discovery! I have been interested in photography for a while now, I even thought about taking it at A level, but unfortunately, it would be pointless work for me as I want to be a doctor. Anyway, I have always wanted Photoshop, but of course, due to the price of this software, I can't afford it. Fortunately, I no longer need to dream about having Photoshop, because I have discovered a software that is just as good, especially for beginners!

I was playing around, just looking for some editing software and I came across GIMP, which is an 'image manipulation programme' like Photoshop. It has many of the same aspects that Photoshop has, although it does have some tools missing. BUT IT'S COMPLETELY FREE, which is amazing!!! For me, as a beginner, I feel that there is such a wide variety available, and I haven't as of yet, found anything that I wasn't able to do. GIMP hasn't disappointed me at all.

I have actually managed to edit some really beautiful pictures on GIMP, as you can see. I started off easy and used a variety of YouTube videos (there's thousands for different skills and tools). I first used selective desaturation, which is the pictures that have monotone backgrounds and the central object in colour. I have always wanted to do this and I am very happy that I have managed to! I then moved on to other skills. At first, it did take a long time to get used to, but now I am very comfortable with it and I often like to explore to find new ways of editing pictures. I have had this software for about 2 weeks now.

I feel like I still need to do a lot more to progress as my pictures are not perfect, but I am happy with how they have ended up! If you are interested in photography, I would definitely recommend that you get this software. As I said before, it is 100% free and safe, and it's just amazing!

If you do manage to edit any pictures on this software, please do send me some of your work, through instagram or via email, chloethresher@yahoo.co.uk!

    1. Thank you Nikkita, I don't think Picmonkey is really a photography editor, it doesn't compare to this at all! xxx
